January 26th, 2023, Vancouver, British Columbia – Syniad Innovations Inc (“Syniad”) is pleased to announce positive progress within its enzymatic catalysis venture, Anodyne Chemistries (Anodyne).
Anodyne engineers enzymes to work inside electrochemical reactors to produce high-value chemicals from CO2. Its current focus is developing an advantaged pathway to methanol. Methanol is increasingly being viewed as a key transportation fuel, particularly for the marine industry, which has limited clean fuel switching options. Anodyne’s work has yielded positive laboratory results for the second step in its pathway from CO2 to methanol, converting formic acid to formaldehyde. These results provide a first-class validation that Anodyne enzymatic catalysis platform performs as designed. A third enzyme, capable of making formic acid from CO2, an important chemical for de-icing in the aviation sector, is well underway.
Additionally, Anodyne is building out its computational capabilities with the recruitment of Tony St. Jacques as the company’s first computational enzymologist. Tony’s role will be to design entirely new enzymes, bio-engineered to create novel catalytic pathways to sustainable chemicals. Tony holds a Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa, where he was also a post-doctoral fellow within the Computational Protein Design Group of Prof. Roberto Chica. The appointment is an indication of the “deep-science” personality of Anodyne, combining strong empirical electro-chemistry, bio-engineering, reactor engineering and now, with an eye to the long-term future of the Company, computational enzymatic discovery.
About Anodyne Chemistries
Anodyne is a Canadian startup with the vision to make the chemical industry sustainable by harnessing the potential of enzymes. Anodyne’s enzymatic platform is created through a pioneering approach that combines the evolutionary advantages of biology with the efficiencies of the chemical industry. By transitioning from fossil to fossil-free manufacturing, they seek to play a key role in solving one of the grand challenges of our time – how to produce affordable, sustainable products that we use every day.
Anodyne strives to build the industry’s leading chemical technology platform, the infrastructure to accelerate scale-up, a rapidly expanding pipeline, and a world-class team. Anodyne’s pipeline includes development candidates for fuels, polymers, food additives and pharmaceutical ingredients, and they have multiple trials underway with other development candidates. In addition, Anodyne has initiated discovery programs with leading research universities, expanding the potential impact of our technologies.
