Syniad has enjoyed another productive quarter, with plenty of positive news across the portfolio. We're noticing the pace of development - both in Syniad and its ventures - accelerate markedly in the second quarter of the year. I am cautiously confident that this trend will continue and that next quarter's newsletter may turn out to be a bumper issue.

Syniad had a strong end to 2023 and a very positive first calendar quarter in 2024. Hard work in challenging market conditions is being rewarded with progress across the portfolio. What’s especially pleasing to note, is that within our investment thesis, our first cluster of ventures based on bio-inspired surface chemistry has really taken off, with notable progress in Anodyne Chemistries, Gemina Labs, and Brokkr.

Welcome to the latest edition of the Syniad Innovations newsletter. Although markets remain challenging, we’ve been pleased by the progress we see across the portfolio.

June was a month filled with a collection of remarkable achievements and ground-breaking milestones.

Our Spring Showcase event at the Terminal City Club was a resounding success in May. In portfolio news, Gemina Labs posted a major announcement confirming that its chemistry platform enables a massive reduction in antibody usage. Green Analytics has entered into its first major partnership in the AgTech space, and 3R Circuits announced the appointment of a chair to its advisory board.

In April, we celebrated significant milestones, including welcoming Giles Hill as CEO designate of Patronus Technologies, successful fundraising into Gemina Labs in the teeth of a difficult market, and research funding advancements in quantum research and sustainable energy at the University of British Columbia. One of our long-term academic partners – Professor Anoush Poursartip from the University of British Columbia, also had the privilege of hosting the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who toured the UBC Faculty of Applied Science to discuss clean energy and climate change solutions, a visit that highlights the importance of international partnerships in tackling global research challenges.

March was a bustling month for Syniad Innovations and our ventures. We are pleased to welcome Miller Adams to our Board of Advisors. Miller will bring us invaluable insights into our emerging opportunities in the USA. Additionally, we attended our second family office conference, hosted by International Deal Getaway and the Global Partnership Family Offices, this time in Dubai.

The year 2023 has begun with a bang, bringing positive developments across our portfolio. We expect this momentum to continue throughout the coming months.

This is the world’s first enzymatic catalysis cell created by Anodyne Chemistries, a Syniad Innovations company. The core invention in the Anodyne Chemistries cell is the immobilization of enzymes directly onto the surface of the electrode. It’s this immobilization step that enables the production of output chemicals at industrial yields.
