November 16th, 2022, Vancouver, British Columbia – Syniad Innovations Inc (“Syniad”) is pleased to report that its quantum networking project with UBC has received generous support from Mitacs’ Accelerate Program. The Quantum I/O project, led by Prof. Lukas Chrostowski, will undertake collaborative R&D focused on integrating photonics with quantum computers.
The total grant of $450,000.00 will provide long-term, stable funding for seven graduate students and four collaborating Professors.
The Quantum I/O research project was launched in collaboration with Syniad to solve a rate-limiting step to scalable quantum computing as the number of qubits in quantum computers grows to meet the networking requirements. To ensure that additional networking does not become a rate-limiting step through additional noise and interference, the team will develop new integrated circuit elements using fibre optics. Specifically, the team will develop a blueprint that meets the strict design criteria for error-corrected quantum computing that will have relevance in quantum and classical computing and the telecommunications field more broadly.
“This support provides opportunities for high-impact projects and training in the areas of quantum networking, quantum computing and control electronics. The world-class team assembled around Quantum I/O brings novel ideas and proven methodologies to the problem of scaling technologies at the interface between quantum computers and high-speed networks. I’m delighted we get to work with Professors Chrostowski, Salfi, Young and Shekar on this pioneering work.” Iain Evans commented.
