- Significant expansion of Syniad’s advisory business.
- Relationship with ICICS highly complementary to Syniad’s investment thesis
VANCOUVER, BC, November 1, 2017 – Syniad Innovations Inc (“Syniad”) is pleased to announce a new advisory relationship with the University of British Columbia’s Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems (“ICICS”).
ICICS is a leading research facility at the intersection of computer science and engineering. It was initially established in the early 1990s. Still, it went through a vital relaunch process in 2005, doubling in size and growing again in 2009 via a $12.9m Leading Edge Fund grant from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation. Within ICICS, more than 150 faculty members undertake research in quantum computing, artificial intelligence, human-machine interaction, sensing, and wearable technologies.
ICICS has engaged Syniad to help develop its research excellence clusters and create pathways to additive research funding.
Today, John Davies, Syniad’s CEO, said, “ICICS is a real jewel in the UBC research crown. Its “applied computational science” focus aligns incredibly well with the expertise we have already developed within the Syniad investment thesis. There are some incredible professors within the ICICS family, and this new role gives us a great mechanism to engage with them on a sustained basis.”
